March is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. This is a nationwide event designed to raise awareness about the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities and address the barriers that those with disabilities face. The intent and purpose of this month aligns beautifully with our long-standing mission, to “To help each person served achieve their desired quality of life”. You will notice our mission is built upon the foundation of first understanding what each individual we support wants for themselves; “their desired quality of life”. Every hour of every day we have incredible employees working hard to understand the hopes, desires, wants and needs of the individuals they support. This happens through rapport building, developing trust, learning verbal and non-verbal communication styles and showing a true dedication and commitment to who they are and what they want in life.
May this month serve as yet another reminder of the great work that we engage in daily. May it also remind us of the nearly 15% of the world’s population that lives with a disability that deserve every right to live self-determined lives and experience the fullest of opportunities that this world has to offer.
