Back in 1995, the finishing touches were just being put on a new Danville program in the Salt Lake Valley in Utah. Excited individuals were moving into their new home while staff were being hired to provide the quality direct support and care that were already a part of the Danville standard. A young Sherrie Wilson had noticed the program being built in her neighborhood and decided to see if she could find a job there. Sherrie had already been working at a nursing home and had fallen in love with helping other people in need. She wasn’t quite sure what types of supports were provided in this new home, but thought she would find out.
That simple knock at the door led to a wonderful 30 year relationship between Sherrie and the individuals supported in that home. In that time, she has become much more than a direct support professional or caregiver. She has become a anchor of dependable care, a loyal advocate and a dear friend to every individual served and her coworkers alike.
Sherrie has decided it is finally time to exit her employment with Danville through that same door that she first entered, over 3 decades ago. She is retiring and embarking on the next exciting chapter of her life! She leaves behind a unmatched legacy and hearts full of the love she shared. In true Sherrie fashion, she made sure to point out to the individuals in the home that this wasn’t a final goodbye. She will continue to check on them as their friend. A friendship like that can only be forged though decades of commitment and selfless service.
Thank you, Sherrie! You truly are the best of what we all aspire to be. We wish you sincere joy and happiness in your retirement!
