Every now and again, I find myself paying too much attention to the news and the constant challenges in the world around us. In these moments, life can quickly feel dark and divisive. I find myself desperately looking for sources of light and reminders of the good around us.
This past weekend, I found myself in such a place. As my thoughts began to spin around some of the chaos in the world, I felt hope begin to dwindle within me. Just when I needed it most, I received a calendar alert on my phone, reminding me that the coming week (this week) is our DSP/Caregiver Appreciation week. It was no surprise that this was coming. We have been planning it for months now. But in that moment, my awareness of the arrival of this week was eclipsed by some of the heaviness of life. That brief reminder of this opportunity to celebrate some of the best people I know, instantly changed the trajectory of my feelings from worry and woe, to full gratitude and appreciation. It was a wonderful reminder of how lucky I am to get to rub shoulders with such amazing people!

You’re The Top!
For those of you that have been with us for any length of time (some for over 30 years!), you have likely heard Danville’s mantra, that the most important position in this company is found in the homes and programs. They are our Direct Support Professionals and Caregivers. You are the direct manifestation of everything we believe in, stand for and hope to be as an organization. The work you are doing changes lives and helps every individual we support reach their full potential, as they choose it.
Honoring our DSPs and Caregivers should never be relegated to just one week of the year. It is our sincerest goal that you feel valued each and every day on the job. What this special week does allow us to do is unify our voices from one corner of our company to the other, to give you that extra burst of love and appreciation.
Thank you for being a light in this world! Happy DSP/Caregiver Week!
